The importance of Regular Boiler Servicing

Okay so you don't want to spend money unless you have to. There's nothing unusual about that - especially when it comes to something like servicing your boiler. It's not as though you will have something to show for it - right? Well that's not entirely true.

Having your boiler service log book stamped every year has a few important benefits. The first one is that most (almost all) manufacturers such as Worcester Bosch, Valliant, Baxi, Viessmann etc. will only warranty their products if they have been serviced on an annual basis. So whilst boilers, especially new ones, are very well built if something does go wrong with their products and you haven't had a regular service then you may well be looking at a boiler repair bill which outweighs the cost of regular servicing.

Whilst most of us a familiar with having to have an MOT done on our cars every year there are similar principles behind getting your boiler serviced regularly. The main purpose of an MOT is to ensure your vehicle is roadworthy so as not to pose a danger to the driver or other road users. Whilst a boiler isn't mobile, a boiler can pose serious dangers to a household especially concerning the gases used including the expulsion of waste gas. This is the main reason the industry has been regulated ensuring that only gas safe registered heating engineers carry out certain activities such as the installation, replacement and servicing of gas boilers. Whilst we don't want to scare you, there is always a chance that something could go wrong with a boiler and the release of certain noxious gases such as carbon monoxide, which could end up inside your home, are undetectable unless you have appropriate gas detectors fitted. This gas causes a serious health risk.

Clearly ensuring your boiler is safe is the main priority but also a service will check to see if your boiler is running as efficiently as possible for it's condition and age, this alone can cover the cost of a service by the saving made on your fuel bills over the course of a year.
