Complete bathroom renovations in Chesterfield

Chesterfield is the northern edge of the area we cover. We fit complete bathrooms and wet rooms there: strip-out, new layout, plumbing, electrics, tiling and fitting, all by the same team. It starts with a visit to your home to measure, check the water pressure and the waste route, and talk through how you use the room and what you want to spend.

The town’s housing ranges from Victorian and Edwardian terraces with solid walls and narrow stairs to modern estates with stud walls and engineered floors. Each needs a different approach to fixings, floors and pipe runs, and we plan for it at survey so it is in the quote, not discovered halfway through.

What a complete bathroom includes

  • Baths

Freestanding, straight or P-shaped. We check the joists before fitting a heavy freestanding bath and plan how an old cast-iron bath will come out down a narrow staircase.

  • Wet rooms and walk-in showers

Tanked floors laid to fall for proper drainage, slip-resistant tiles and frameless screens, or a low-profile tray where that suits the floor better.

    Wet rooms
  • Showers

Electric, mixer, thermostatic or digital. We test the water pressure at survey, because it varies across a hilly town and decides which shower will perform.

  • Tiles or shower boards

Ceramic and porcelain tiling, or waterproof shower boards in marble or stone effects with no grout to discolour.

  • Floors and underfloor heating

Porcelain, ceramic, vinyl or non-slip safety flooring, laid on a properly prepared base, with electric underfloor heating beneath if you want it.

    Underfloor heating
  • Furniture and fixtures

Vanity units, wall-hung toilets, mirrored cabinets with lighting and storage built into awkward spaces, all fixed securely into solid or stud walls.

The standard we work to

Three bathrooms we completed in a Derby house

The best way to judge a bathroom fitter is to see their finished rooms. In this short walkthrough, Liam Taylor, who runs our projects, shows three bathrooms we completed in one house in Derby, with ceiling LED strips, a lit shower niche, backlit mirrors and wall-hung vanity units.

Every one of those details was planned before the walls were boarded, because the cables have to go in first. That is the advantage of having the electrician and the tiler on the same team.

A standard bathroom takes 7 to 10 working days, and complete bathrooms we fit usually cost between £5,000 and £18,000. Our Derby bathroom fitters page sets out the price bands, the bathroom design guide gives the detailed costs, and the cost can be spread through our finance options.

Local know-how: Chesterfield

  • The Crooked Spire

The spire of St Mary and All Saints was added in about 1362 and rises 228 feet. It has a 45-degree twist, and its tip leans 9 feet 6 inches off centre.

  • Why it twisted

The likeliest causes are unseasoned timber, too little cross-bracing and 33 tons of lead added in the 17th century, more than the medieval frame was built to carry. Good reason to check what is under a heavy bath.

  • Stephenson’s last home

George Stephenson, the railway engineer, lived at Tapton House near Chesterfield, died there in 1848 and is buried at Holy Trinity Church in the town.

  • Solid walls, different fixings

Many of Chesterfield’s older homes have solid stone or brick walls. They hold a wall-hung vanity well but need the right drill, plugs and patience, and they hold damp, so ventilation matters.

Between Chesterfield and our Derby base we also cover Alfreton and South Normanton, Ripley and Belper, where you can see a full bath-to-shower conversion we finished.

Chesterfield bathroom questions

Why use one company for the whole bathroom?

A bathroom needs plumbing, electrics, plastering, tiling and sometimes joinery. As part of the Derbyshire Specialists Group we have all of those trades in-house, so you get one invoice, one guarantee and one point of contact.

How long does a bathroom renovation take?

Most complete bathrooms take 7 to 10 working days. A simple refresh with new fittings can take 3 to 4 days, and a job that moves plumbing or adds underfloor heating can run to the full 10 or a little more.

Do you deal with building regulations?

Yes. Electrical work near water is certified by our Part P electricians, new extractor fans are fitted to the regulations, and any drainage changes are done to the standard required. You get the certificates at the end.

Can you work with solid walls and period features?

Yes. We fix into solid stone and brick, level uneven floors, work round features you want to keep, and plan how old fittings come out through narrow halls and stairs.

Is a wet room right for a terraced house?

Often, especially where removing a bath frees up the room. The floor has to be tanked and laid to fall, which we check is possible at survey; where it isn’t, a low-profile tray gives a similar look.

Can I pay in instalments?

Finance is available subject to status, through Ideal4Finance, a credit broker and not a lender. See our finance options page for details.
